Formaldehyde Removal Guides for Singapore
In-depth guides to formaldehyde (HCHO) in Singapore homes: where it comes from, why it matters, the chemistry behind photocatalytic decomposition, residential and commercial removal, and the testing protocol UC Fresh Air uses on every booking. Written for homeowners, IDs, and facility managers.
Everything Singapore homeowners need to know about formaldehyde
Formaldehyde (HCHO) is a colourless, strong-smelling volatile organic compound classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the WHO IARC. It is the dominant indoor pollutant in newly renovated Singapore homes, released by pressed-wood carpentry (MDF, particleboard, plywood), urea-formaldehyde adhesives, fresh paint, foam mattresses, and laminate flooring. The WHO indoor air guideline is 0.1 mg/m³ over a 30-minute average; new BTO and condo bedrooms routinely measure 3 to 10 times that.
These guides cover the full picture: the chemistry of formaldehyde release, why Singapore's tropical climate amplifies emission rates, the difference between formaldehyde and TVOCs, residential and commercial removal options, photocatalytic decomposition versus carbon-filter air purifiers, and the testing protocol we use to document before-and-after readings. Each is reviewed against current WHO, IARC, NEA, and ATSDR guidance.
For symptom-based guides ("why am I coughing at home"), see the Symptoms category. For pre-renovation material choices, see Materials & Renovation. For our service pages, see Formaldehyde Removal Services or VOC Removal Services in the main menu.
