Indoor Air Quality Guides for Singapore Homes
Comprehensive guides to indoor air quality in Singapore homes and offices: pregnancy and infant safety, ventilation versus aircon, humidity, mould versus formaldehyde, testing equipment, and what professional treatment actually does. WHO and NEA aligned, written by UC Fresh Air technicians.
How indoor air quality really works in tropical Singapore
Indoor air quality in Singapore behaves differently from cooler climates. Heat and humidity accelerate emission of formaldehyde and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from building materials by 2 to 4 times the rate of European safety-test conditions. Aircon-on, windows-shut sleeping accumulates pollutants overnight in sealed bedrooms. New built-in carpentry per square metre is significantly higher in HDB and condo floor plans than in larger overseas homes.
These guides are practitioner-reviewed against the WHO 0.1 mg/m³ formaldehyde guideline, NEA workplace IAQ guidance, IARC Group 1 carcinogen classifications, and ATSDR toxicological profiles. Each covers the underlying chemistry, the Singapore-specific climate amplifier, and the practical action plan for homeowners and facility managers.
For the body-symptom search-intent guides (coughing, headaches, fatigue, asthma flares), see our Symptoms category. For renovation material decisions before move-in, see Materials & Renovation. For office and commercial premises, see Workplace Hygiene.
